DAVID HOFFMAN – FAIA

RESTORATION ARCHITECT – PARAMOUNT THEATRE

100th Anniversary Countdown Paramount Theatre Continued!

David Hoffman, FAIA. David Hoffman, of Bell, Klein and Hoffman Architects, was the Paramount’s lead architect after taking over from 3D International in 1978. His restoration credentials were impeccable. David, and his wife Binnie, worked together to analyze several layers of paint to see what the original colors were. Binnie did outstanding research uncovering information and photos heretofore unknown to us.

Beyond David’s architect process, he provided a calm hand on the Paramount’s tiller during tumultuous times. He acted as liaison between me and our contractor who had no restoration experience. None of the more well-known contractors would bid on the project due to the mountain of unknowns which are part and parcel of rehab type work.

Throughout the majority of the restoration, between 1978 and September of 1980 when we re-opened, David was both partner and guide, giving Austin, Texas and the nation the sumptuous Paramount we enjoy today 40 years after the Paramount’s new life began. His was a gentle heart, a soft voice amongst a lot of clatter and a true friend to this day, as is Binnie.

Our love to you both for embracing the spirit that the building was a means to an end! That end is the infinite variety of programming the theatre presents every day.
